Today, loudspeakers are part of the basic multimedia equipment of every classroom or seminar room. However, despite the power switch, the speakers are not usually switched off, i.e. they consume power constantly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
So it's not surprising that the standby consumption quickly comes to the fore. Not only with the recent explosion of electricity costs, relevant sums quickly add up here, after all, rarely only one room is equipped.
Here is a calculation example:
Let's assume loudspeakers are used for 2 hours on 200 school days per year, or not used for 22 hours = 4,400 hours standby.
Add to this the remaining non-teaching days = 3960 hours of standby.
We tested a popular active speaker from the market and found that our AktivboxSet² 50+ consumes a whole 7.9 watts less in standby mode*.
Extrapolated to the standby time, that makes an additional consumption of 66 kw/h. According to BDEW, the average electricity price in Germany in 2021 was 32.16 cents per kw/h. This results in a cost saving of around €21 - per box or, to put it another way, per classroom! Not to mention the CO² emissions that can be saved over the years!
